Understanding the Statistics

Word Count

Counts individual words separated by spaces or punctuation. The tool recognizes compound words and hyphenated terms appropriately.

Character Count

Provides two values: total characters (including spaces, punctuation, and special characters) and characters excluding spaces (useful for SMS and certain platforms that count only non-space characters).

Sentence Count

Identifies sentences by looking for ending punctuation (periods, exclamation marks, question marks) followed by spaces or line breaks. The algorithm accounts for common abbreviations and decimal numbers to avoid false sentence breaks.

Paragraph Count

Counts paragraphs by identifying blocks of text separated by one or more blank lines or appropriate HTML/formatting breaks.

Reading Time

Calculated based on the average reading speed of 225 words per minute for adults reading silently. This provides an estimate of how long it would take to read the text.

Speaking Time

Calculated based on the average speaking rate of 150 words per minute for public speaking or presentations. This helps estimate how long it would take to read the text aloud.

Most Used Words

Identifies words that appear most frequently in your text. You can toggle whether to include or exclude common words (like "the," "and," "to") from this analysis.
